Dear ENVRI Board colleagues, This mail is for information especially for the ERIC directors that were not able to join our meeting in Marseille. As the ERIC directors saw in the mail sent by Emmanuel earlier this week, I have sent my expression of interest on the ERIC Forum Vice Chair position. I was asked by Bonnie Wolf-Boenish, CESSDA Executive Director, to step up as a candidate for the Vice Chair position to form a team with her, and to support her in leading the Forum, and after a long consideration I said yes. I feel that we would form a good team. Main motivation for my decision was, however, that in this role I could bring ENVRIs more in centre of ERIC Forum. However, as was discussed in the ENVRI Board earlier this week, I was not fully aware of the rules for the representation of domains in ExBo, when applying. Due to these rules, if I am elected, it means that the position of ENVRI ExBo member will change to Vice Chair position. In our ENVRI Board meeting today, the ERIC members present endorsed the possibility to have this role for an ENVRI member. I attach here again my motivation letter, as info for whole ENVRI Board. The election will be held in the next ERIC Forum meeting, and each ERIC director will be able to vote. ENVRI Board Meeting: information, material and practicalities

Dear all, Next week our ENVRI Board in-person meeting will take place in Marseille. In this mail the Chairs and I want to give some information about practicalities and material for those of you who can join us on-site. We will meet on Tuesday, 7th October and Wednesday, 8th October, in the meeting room of the LCE (Laboratoire de Chimie de lEnvironnement), building 10, on the 4th floor. The lunch on Tuesday as well as the coffee breaks on both days are covered by ACTRIS as the current chairperson. On Wednesday there will be no separate lunch but the one from IRISCC meeting afterwards. A joint dinner is not planned. Dear ENVRI Board members, The ENVRI Board in-person meeting is approaching, and we want to inform you about further practicalities. Our meeting will take place at Aix-Marseille University, Campus Saint-Charles (3 Pl. Victor Hugo, 13003 Marseille, France) close to Marseille-St-Charles Station. We will start on Tuesday, 7th October, at 9:00 and will close the meeting on Wednesday, 8th October, at 13:00. Please find attached the preliminary agenda. Summary of the meeting held on the whit paper on Preserving Critical Scientific Data

Dear ENVRI Board, Last week we had the meeting on the US situation and drafting the white paper on preserving critical scientific data. I think our concerns were fairly well received. A new draft was distributed after the meeting open to anyone to contribute and comment. The document will be with no signatures, but it is a working document which can be used for further discussion. The cross-domain core group will meet on September 5th to finalise the document as far as possible. After agreeing on a first version, all contributors will be encouraged to also share the paper within their own scientific communities—whether by domain or geographic region—to help raise visibility and stimulate further engagement. Antje, as the ERIC Forum Chair, I will share the white paper on behalf of the cross-domain group with the ERIC Forum Executive Board, for further dissemination to the scientific clusters of European research infrastructures (such as ENVRI), as well as to relevant contacts at the European Commission. We hope that there would be a possibility to arrange bilateral meeting/meetings with the Commission during autumn. When disseminating the paper, a brief explanation will be provided of what it represents: a first cross-domain snapshot of a developing crisis in public data infrastructure. As per the discussion in the meeting, the document is intended to raise awareness, highlight the urgency of the situation, and—most importantly—invite scientific organisation and communities to take action and contribute next steps, including their bilateral dialogue with their funders. This will include providing more detailed, case-by-case input on the evolving data situation and collaborating on joint responses and coordination efforts. You are welcome to contribute to the text until end of August. Please note that this draft is open to anyone. ERIC Forum ExBo will have the next bilateral meeting Commission in September, where they may discuss the topic in a more closed meeting. Dear ENVRI Board members, Due to the summer holidays, there has been a slight delay in making the materials and minutes from the last ENVRI Board Meeting. I kindly ask the presenters whose slides are not yet there to upload them directly or send them to me so that I can do so. Invitation to Join COST Action Proposal on Innovation in Environmental RIs

Dear ENVRI Board members, Marina Papageorgiou approached us with a call of interest to join a COST Action proposal they are preparing on Innovation for Environmental Research Infrastructures, as part of next steps to the ENVRINNOV project and asked me to circulate it to the ENVRI Board. Please find below the relevant mail: Dear ENVRI Board, As coordinators of the ENVRINNOV project, we are preparing a COST Action proposal focused on strengthening the innovation capacity of environmental RIs in Europe. This initiative builds on the vision developed through ENVRINNOV and aims to establish a structured, pan-European network for collaboration on innovation, capacity building, and the co-development of new technologies and services across ENVRI domains. A key objective also being to support joint preparation for future funding calls on innovation. The proposed Action aims to: 1. Foster collaboration and capacity-building for innovation * Support co-development of tools, technologies, and services with scientific, societal, and industrial relevance * Pilot collaborations between RIs, regional ecosystems, and industry for innovation * Facilitate best practice exchange and training in innovation management * Organize workshops and networking events * Support consortium building for EU funding opportunities 2. Facilitate coordination on innovation and future planning * Contribute to shaping the future Research and Technology Infrastructure Landscape in the environment domain * Map emerging technologies (e.g. sensors, platforms) with cross-RI application potential * Advance shared approaches to stakeholder engagement, innovation governance, data/service valorisation, and responsible innovation 3. Support early-career scientists and broaden participation across Europe * Increase opportunities for early-career researchers * Strengthen links with innovation stakeholders across all European regions We are currently forming the core group of proposers for the submission. In line with COST Action eligibility criteria, the initial consortium must include individuals from at least seven different COST Full or Cooperating Member countries, with at least 50% representation from COST Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs).
